Haiti Suffers A Devastating Earthquake

I was in the office when Mr. Fralin came in to tell us the news and learned  that a 7.0 earthquake hit the island this afternoon.  The epicenter of the earthquake is said to be 10 miles from the capital, Port-au-Prince.

A hospital has collapsed.  Other buildings in the area have been damaged.    The news report states that other building including the Presidential Palace, Parliament and National Cathedral buildings have all been destroyed.

There was a a tsunami watch for Haiti and parts of Cuba, the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas, but later the news reported that a tsunami was not a threat.

Haiti is one of the poorest islands in the western hemisphere and with so little resources the aftermath is likely to be catastrophic.  I can only pray and hope that the U.S. and other global communities will come the their aid.
