MEET THE TEAM - STUDENT GOVERNMENT OFFICERS FOR SY 24-25
The I.S. 68 Student Government Association (SGA) is comprised of passionate student representatives who are leaders in our building dedicated to making positive changes at I.S. 68 Middle School, through advocating for student's needs, amplifying the student voice, and seeking to implement policies and initiatives to enhance the student experience.
These students are our ambassadors, they are the student leaders who set the standard and is the example of a true I.S. 68 student leader. They are "students serving students"
I.S. 68 SGA is dedicated to uplifting the student voice
Enhancing the student experience, and supporting the I.S. 68 community.
We volunteer, we fundraise, to support groups within our community and to fund our activities.
We plan events and activities for our community, to ensure that we all have a true middle school experience.
We give back to our community internally as well as externally. We respond to student issues and create student activities that promote enthusiasm and school spirit, building a community where each member feels valued and respected. Whether it is your first year at I.S. 68 or your last, we are excited to find ways to help you soar as an Eagle.

The president runs the council
the president can call for meetings.
He/she is a role model throughout the I.S. 68 community, the president must maintain high grades.
The president is responsible for representing the student body at all meetings.
He/She works with the Adviser to develop the agenda for meetings and manages the meetings.
He/She votes in case of a tie and must present a fine example for the council.
The highest elected SGA officer is the president.
The president is the leader of the student body,
The president's main job is to represent student interests in the school community.
The president is the primary contact when advocating before school administrators and external parties, such as the local city council.
The president starts meetings, announces official business, and adjourns meetings.
The vice president has authority when the president is not available.
The vice president also handles issues related to public relations and fulfills duties when asked by the president.
The vice president is often responsible for directing committees.
The vice president must maintain high grades, like the president.
The vice president follows the duties of the president when the president is unable to fulfill his/her duties.
The vice president of the student body is the person charged with standing in for the president when that person is unavailable or resigns.
The vice president must be knowledgeable about the president's duties and ongoing business.
Performing specific duties listed in the SGA's bylaws
The vice president presides over meetings when the president is absent. The vice president is the second highest elected official in the SGA/council.
The secretary records and maintains the minutes of all meetings of the SGA
Takes attendance and ensure the sign in sheet is available at all meetings.
The secretary must keep accurate minutes, allowing the SGA to have a record of student decisions.
The secretary handles all correspondence. The secretary handles all communication between the council members.
The secretary is the primary record keeper for the council and keeps all committee reports on file.
The secretary must notify members of upcoming meetings.
The secretary is responsible for maintaining the SGA email box.
The treasurer manages all financial aspects of the council, including the deposits and expenditures of the SGA.
The treasurer is often placed in charge of the fundraising committee.
The treasurer's main job is to act as the custodian for the SGA funds.
Under the supervision of the adviser, the treasurer receives and distributes money, keeps records of all money spent and received.
The treasurer prepares deposits of funds raised into the school’s bank account.
The treasurer prepares a financial report for each meeting.
The treasurer works with the adviser to keep accurate records of all income and expenditures.
HISTORIAN/REPORTER – 7TH OR 8TH GRADER ONLY:
The historian shall keep a scrapbook digitally of all SGA activities including photographs, newsletters, articles, flyers, etc.
The historian is responsible for promoting the SGA/ school's upcoming events, drafting flyers and ensuring they are posted and removed in a timely manner.
Capturing videos and photos at all SGA/ school events for the posting on the school’s social media and website.
Ensuring all SGA/ school activities, i.e. events and fundraisers are in the morning announcement and well promoted throughout the building.
This person is the public relations person of the SGA.
Class or grade representatives are responsible for reporting information collected about particular aspects of the school.
These representatives can present ideas to the council and provide their opinions, allowing the council to have a more well-rounded perspective.
There are 2 reps from each grade. You are the voice of your classmates.
