Awards Night, Tuesday, June 17th
We can't wait to welcome you to 6th grade! We also hope that you'll have a fun and restful summer. Whether you’re on a beach, at camp, or just at home, summer is the perfect time to read!
You are required to read a minimum of 5 books over the summer: 3 required and 2 of your choice. Please check the school’s website for a list of suggested titles for you. You do not have to read these titles but this list may help you get some ideas. You can read a graphic novel if you'd like, but only one of these books can be in this genre. Be ready to discuss your reading with your 6th grade teacher and your peers.
Your required books this summer are:
Bud, Not Buddy by Christopher Paul Curtis
The Ramayana, Book 6 by Valmiki
Blood on the River: James Town 1607 by Elisa Carbone.
We suggest reading Bud, Not Buddy last so it will be fresh in your mind when you return in September. You will have a graded quiz and annotation check in for each of your required readings to assess your comprehension. Here are a few things to think about and annotate as you read:
What do you learn about the characters through the story?
How do the characters change throughout the story?
What stands out to you as important or meaningful?
